The Main Event cont.

When speaking about all of the different wonderful events that there are to bet on, one must understand that they are not all made equally. Many bets are silly and when it comes down to it, very few people (especially real pro’s) will actually bet on these prop bets. These prop bets are available on all sorts of things but when it comes to drawing a crowd of people of people that are not regulars down at the book, there is nothing better. That’s why the book does it, fresh blood is good for business… That said, even amongst the actual game outcomes in major sports, some generate a lion’s share of the bets. You see, not nearly as many people bet on women’s basketball as on men’s. That may reflect societies sexist nature but it is the world we live in.

If you ask Las Vegas book makers, they would tell you that they love the final four. It is a great time of year. They have lots of fresh faced customers in line just chomping at the bit to make their bet. There are a lot of games and it lasts for weeks. People actually go on vacation from their jobs to attend the games at the book in Las Vegas. There are always plenty of people around to bet on the Final Four Tourney but when American Football rolls around, it puts the final four to bed… As a matter of fact, there are many, many events bet on in Las Vegas but they are all overshadowed by one major game. We lovingly refer to this game as the Superbowl.

This Big Game draws people from around the world to make major bets. There are people who only bet on this Big Game every year and there are people who make their first bet ever on this game every year. The book comes up with prop bets of every sort for the entertainment of the people in attendance. They all try to figure out something fun and fresh to give their betting audience a bit of entertainment. It really is a big business all by it’s self. I read somewhere that about $119,000,000.00 was bet on the Big Game in 2014 setting the record. Remember, that is legal on the books betting. Who knows how many neighbors had side bets of their own about that very same game. There was no record kept on at least some of the bets made during that game…

No matter how you look at it book making is here to stay. With the bookies are making a bit of money off of each transaction they are always going to end up making their percent but other than that you are betting against other people who don’t agree with your prediction. There is a real chance to improve your own odds on a game like this as apposed to something that the house will always win on such as Roulette…
