Background:
This race in 2008 will be for a four-year term to complete the Class I term unfilled by Craig Thomas, who died from leukemia on June 4, 2007. Sen. Barrasso was appointed by Gov. Dave Freudenthal on June 22, 2007, from a list of three potential candidates proposed by the Wyoming Republican Party (as required by state law). Barrasso has indicated that he intends to compete in the 2008 race.
