One Saturday afternoon not too long ago my doorbell rang, and who should be standing there but Steve Wieckert himself, apparently canvassing my neighborhood. (Now THAT was a Saturday afternoon buzz killer!) As I closed my door in his face, I wondered what possessed him to start canvassing in person. In all the years I lived here I had never once seen him before. During the last election, the Democratic candidate running against him, Penny Bernard Schraber, had made a pretty good showing, and it looks to me like she's gearing up for a second attempt at the seat.
At the time I wondered if maybe he was thinking that his assembly seat maybe wasn't quite so safe anymore, but now I'm thinking that he's maybe aiming at a higher office. In any case, I'm also suddenly getting mailings from Wieckert, which is something I don't recall ever getting from him before. If either Green or Gard will be running against Kagen, it's hard to see just how well Wieckert could do against them, given that those two have a much higher profile in the congressional district. |

The Wisconsin GOP is already talking up former Congressman Mark GREEN to attempt to reclaim his old district and listing him as a potential candidate is recommended. John GARD will not run against Mark GREEN if GREEN moves to reclaim the seat. It is likely GARD would challenge State Senator Dave HANSEN if GREEN decided to make the challenge as expected.
