Background Information

McDermott is one of the most liberal members of the House and is wildly popular in Seattle, where he received 79.25% of the vote in his district in 2006. Seattle Post-Intelligencer political columnist Joel Connelly has tagged McDermott "Congressman-for-life." Indeed, McDermott, who will most likely head up the Human Resources subcommittee of the Ways and Means committee in the 2007 House, is unlikely to face serious opposition again in 2008.
