Background Information

Republican incumbent James "Jim" Inhofe is up for re-election in 2006, having originally been elected to the US Senate in 2004. Note that he will be almost 74 years old when running for re-election. Inhofe is quite conservative, and Wikipedia has an extensive section devoted to his stances on the issues such as abortion, the environment, torture, equal rights for gay Americans, and immigration. He is considerably more socially conservative than the Bush Administration has been.

Possible Democratic challengers include former US House Representative Brad Carson (who unsucessfully ran for Senate in 2004), and Robert Samuel Kerr III, a grandson of Robert Samuel Kerr, former Oklahoma Governor and US Senator. Kerr also ran for President in 1952 but failed to garner the Democratic nomination. Relatively little information about Kerr III is available on the internet, although this will surely change if he opts to run for Senate in 2008.
