I'm thinking we should just take Easley off. I love him, and I was hoping he would run, but it seems pretty clear that he doesnt want to. Is there any objection to taking him off?

I heard from the YD's of Buncombe County that Asheville City Councilman Bryan Freeborn is being heavily recruited to run either against Dole in 08 or Burr in 2010. Word is that the dems want someone that is not washed up. Supposedly NC Democratic Party is looking to the western part of the state for candidates that can stand up to hard line Republicans.

I've heard speculation that David Young, a County Commisioner from Buncombe County might be thinking about the seat. I've been looking at his bio and he's been strong on economic development and education -- he's on the Board of Governors for the University of North Carolina system, which makes me feel good about him. You might remember he ran against Charles Taylor for his seat in congress a few years ago. Can we add him to the list? Lets encourage him if Easley is a no.

I have the deepest love and respect for Governor Hunt. He did more for North Carolina than any other Governor since the Civil War. Maybe even before the civil war. But is he young enough to serve two or three terms?
