Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue announced plans today for legislation that would create a fund to provide incentives and tax credits to environmentally sustainable energy projects.
The N.C. Green Business Fund would begin with a minimum initial investment of $15 million under Perdue's plan.
Perdue's plan also calls for developing a strategy for directing portions of the state investment portfolio to businesses with environmentally friendly practices and setting efficiency goals for state government agencies.
"In North Carolina and across America, we see that there is profit in protecting the environment," Perdue said in a release. "North Carolina should be a leader in the green economy."
Perdue will speak tonight at a reception for Greenbridge, an energy-efficient condominium development planned for downtown Chapel Hill.
