Background information
With Democratic incumbent Governor Mike Easley set to retire due to a term-limit, several candidates are vying for this seat (though considerably more Republicans than Democrats). Wikipedia suggests that there are as many as 9 prospective Republican candidates (some have announced, others have not) who may be seeking this seat. - Hires Brian Nick, the deputy campaign manager for Sen. Dole's 2002 campaign, to assist in his expected gubenatorial run. Nick served as Sen. Dole's communications director, then as spokesman for the NRSC which Dole headed. In addition to helping Graham, Nick will also be senior strategist for N.C.
