Chellie Pingree just sent a message out to the Common Cause e-mail list that started with this paragraph: "I am writing to you today with mixed feeling to let you know that I will be stepping down as the president of Common Cause. I am leaving our wonderful organization to return to my home state of Maine to pursue a likely run for Congress in 2008."

philinmaine This race will be decided in a Dem primary 0 Dec 10 2006, 6:53 AM EST by philinmaine

Dems have a 'gaggle' of contenders as Allen vacates for a run at Senate. They have a substantial farm team of leges already vying. The Repubs do not have much of a farm team and it would be difficult at best. There will be some decisions made over the holiday season and '07 will likely see an early start. Look for a surprise entry in this race.
